New Study Uncovers Young People's Information Literacy – In an Age of AI

As part of the Expert Group on the Future of Information Literacy, Mie Oehlenschlæger has contributed to the extensive work that has resulted in a new report on young people’s information literacy in an age of AI.

How do young people search for information in a school or educational context? Do they critically assess the information they encounter? And how do they approach the use of generative AI?

These questions and more are explored in the study "Young People's Information Literacy – In an Age of AI", conducted by the think tank Mandag Morgen in collaboration with Tænketanken Fremtidens Biblioteker and the Algorithms, Data, and Democracy project. The study provides a unique insight into young people's thought processes as they navigate specific search tasks, revealing their considerations when selecting or dismissing information sources.

Based on the study’s findings, the Expert Group on the Future of Information Literacy has developed a catalog of recommendations, mapping out future information literacy needs and offering concrete actions to strengthen young people's ability to navigate an increasingly AI-driven information landscape.
